Mental Fitness   Unlocking the creative potential of the mind

Just as tension and stress reduce one's ability to think clearly, floating generally improves mental performance at all levels - from basic memorization through to high-level creative or "synthetic" thinking.

  The floating mind
During a float session there are measurable changes in brainwave activity that are accompanied by subtle shifts in perception and awareness.

·
Freed from its normal duties of processing signals from the external world, the brain "relaxes" into a slow, rhythmic wave pattern called the theta state, just above the threshold of sleep.

·
The theta state is associated with deep learning ability, and conscious control of normally unconscious functions of mind and body.

·
At the same time, electrical activity in the two hemispheres of the brain becomes more synchronized and balanced, facilitating access to the creative, intuitive capabilities of the right brain.

·
Floaters often report intensely creative or inspirational "Eureka" experiences while floating. This is supported by controlled studies of creative problem-solving ability, lateral thinking, and even piano playing and jazz improvisation.

Self-mastery - winning the "inner game"
Floating does not induce a sleep state. Researchers have likened the whole-brain theta state achieved by floaters during floatation to the type of brainwave activity produced by Zen monks in deep satori.

·
In this relaxed, focused, receptive mind-state, simple auto-suggestion and visualization techniques become powerfully effective in enhancing an individuals motivation, confidence, and motor skills.

·
In the tank, negative emotions and unwanted habits melt away, along with the physical tensions that usually accompany them.

·
Based on smoking, alcohol consumption, and weight-control studies at America's National Institute of Mental Health, some leading researchers regard REST as the only self-management technique with proven, long-term success in tackling habit-cessation problems.

Floating offers a high-tech shortcut to the traditional benefits of meditation, without the need for years of training or practice. In the floatation tank, you become master of your own mind.
